The Alchemy of the Obama Election

I was such a political junkie the past two months!!!  It is hard to have the election over, but now the fun begins because it is no longer about the jockeying that goes on in a campaign and the sorry name-calling that passes for political debate in this country; rather, we get to see what the president-elect is going to do with the opportunity, who he is going to name to the various positions he must fill and the implications that that means for politics, for policy, for philosophy.  We are in that phase of curiosity about our own future as it is played out in the people he decides to surround himself with.

I admit that I voted for Obama, seeing in him a personal power to inspire, a steadiness and grit that can look down the muzzle of a loaded gun and not flinch, and a personal warmth (as seen in that very genuine smile) that sometimes gets overshadowed by his coolness.  I’m a life-long Democrat and the inevitable swing towards liberalism is something I have been waiting for for way too long.  This is the right thing at the right time.  Let me explain.

Mayan astrology, very much tied into their calendrics, points to this very moment we are living, mid-November, 2008, as the end of the period of destruction known as the Fifth Night that began on November 18, 2007.  Wednesday, November 12, 2008, is the start date for the Sixth Day,  “(corresponding to the Renaissance and the beatnik/hippie time period of 1952-72), consciousness will overcome technology completely and our larger minds will merge with computers to produce such phenomena as teleportation, time travel and age reversal.”

Have you felt that there has been a shift going on recently?  Has the “new age” become more present to you of late?  I know that I have become much more attuned to shifts in interest.  People seem genuinely fed up with the old paradigms and are looking for a new way of viewing the world.  The hippie generation was a total mind shift, a breaking away from the limitations of conformity that was the accepted norm of post-WWII life.  Having lived through it, I certainly remember a world that seemed to have a shift in its axis going on, where I kept asking myself what was happening and why.  Nothing seemed fixed; everything was up for consideration.

This past election was certainly generational.  The two candidates, McCain and Obama, were visual icons for the generational shift going on.  Obama’s victory speak in Grant Park on Tuesday night was  stirring for sure, but it was also the first line in the new age that is coming into focus, the Renaissance of the spirit when consciousness can truly break free of the shackles of the past.  Just as any election is a new beginning, this one seems to capture that sense in spades.  With Obama, however, the mental shift for the US, and the world, is seismic.  The mere color of his skin forces us to lay aside the race card:  this man is our president, and we must accord him the modicum of respect that the position requires, whether we agree with him or not.  To do this, we must necessarily accord respect to what he represents, namely the long suffering oppressed class of the United States that has risen from the pain and suffering of too many moments of degradation, despair, and disenfranchisement.  This is just the psychological shift needed in this country at this moment because it mirrors the shift in consciousness going on generally in the world.  The measure of his victory is a sign that the old ways of politics, the politics of separation, has come to an end.

There will be much metaphoric “dying” in the next year.  The old ways of banking and finance are dead, crushed in record time by the greed and excess of an industry and even a way of thinking (capitalism) that put “me” before “us” always.  Out of the ashes of the massive destruction in capital we’ve seen over the past month or so must necessarily arise a better system, but also a deeper and broader consciousness about money and what it means to us.  The government’s seeming takeover of the banks is a step toward a new system that no one could have envisioned even a year ago.  This banking and credit crisis is but one manifestation of the new consciousness that is arising, a harbinger of the Renaissance taking place.

Obama’s reaction to his election was unique:  “This isn’t about me; it’s about you”.  Not words heard often from politicians!!  Indeed, he is the symbol of the change in consciousness that is coming about.  Therefore, it is about us, and about how his campaign was very much a grassroots campaign.  His campaign showed the power of the collective voice that we now have thanks to communication tools like the internet and youtube.  The revolution is here, and we know it, and those in the know are using these tools to tap into the consciousness shift going on among the population of the world.  There is a symbiosis in the two of them; as the world shifts toward engagement, we find that we are co-creators with those who lead us.  This is very much in line with the coming of the Universal Consciousness cycle that will emerge in 2011 according to the Mayan calendar, in which man and God will co-exist, where man will come to know the mind of God as he discovers it within himself, where all creation opens up to man and he walks in the blissfull knowing of the mind of God.

This November, the already-intense Scorpio energy is amplified by an exact opposition between Saturn (the old, stubborn and rigid) and Uranus (progressive change) on Election Day.  McCain is surely Saturnian and Obama is Uranus personified.  So, as we have the opposition of Saturn and Uranus projected in our two candidates, let us not lose sight of the fact that our election has played out the alchemical shift going on in consciousness.  If we are about to embark on another extraordinary period of evolution similar to the 1952-72 period of the beatniks and hippies, and the other earth-shattering shifts compressed into that time frame, we must be of a mind to accept the “just so-ness” of upheaval, conflict and dramatic realignment that the period of the next two years will bring.  As we travel through the Sixth Day and Sixth Night of the Mayan calendar, let us accept that the struggles we will endure will bring about the emergence of a new consciousness.  We will all live on a higher plane as we evolve.  Obama is not the Messiah, although some see him as their deliverer.  What he is is an icon of a new order.  He called himself a “mutt” just two days ago, a crossbreed, a new construct.  He embodies what our world is becoming.  We must accept it as “just so”.

  1. Great breakdown of last week’s events. Isn’t it funny how these societies with few or no ties to our modern world were so able to accurately (given some interpretation) predict events, trends, and shifts?

It makes me hopeful to live on the cusp of such a dramatic predicted-shift. It also makes me scared, considering some of Nostradamus’ predictions…
